The city of Zabrze among the finalists of the competition „The Local Government Management Leader 2022”
The final gala took place on the 23rd February in Tarnów, which included announcement of the competition results “The Local Government Management Leader”. Zabrze was among the finalists with the project: “Social revitalization with particular consideration to the identity of the location, based on the dialogue of the city authority representatives with the local community for the development of availability and quality of services provided at the Social Services Center in Zabrze”.
The „Local Government Management Leader” competition has been organized by the Union of Polish Cities for 15 years. This exceptional, cyclic event to award the best management practices of the local governments in Poland.
The leading topic in 2022 was „Communication – participation – co-management”. Its purpose was to identify, appreciate and award the cities that, following the idea of “open governance”, efficiently communicate with the stakeholders and effectively engage the population in the local community life, that ,influence the local development and improve the public services and life quality in the city. This time 39 applications were submitted to the competition by 31 cities: 18 applications from cities and urban-rural municipalities, 8 – from cities holding district rights and 13 – from cities being the seats of provincial governments.
Zabrze became a finalists of this year’s edition of the competition for the project: ”Social revitalization with particular consideration to the identity of the location, based on the dialogue of the city authority representatives with the local community for the development of availability and quality of services provided at the Social Services Center in Zabrze”. The purpose of the project was to create a space friendly to the measures aimed at activation and prevention of social exclusion through reconstruction and adaptation of building No. 7, Stalmacha Street in Zabrze to establish the Social Services Center. The project consisted in construction works with relevant systems and connections, landscaping around the building and furnishing for the CUS (Social Services Center) needs. The “Local Government Management 2022 Leader” competition „Communication – participation – co-management” was held as part of the “Local Development” Program, funded from the Financial Mechanism of EEA and Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021. The leader of the project is the Union of Polish Cities, while the partners are: Norwegian Union of Local and Regional Authorities KS, the Institute of Development of Cities and Regions and OECD. The Program operator is the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy.
