Inauguration of another edition of the Children and Youth Academy

Last Saturday Academy of Silesia started another edition of activities of the Children and Youth Academy. Prof. Zbigniew Religa Memorial Faculty of Medical Sciences hosted more than 100 pupils who began a new academic year at our institution in Zabrze. The special guests of the inauguration were Ewa and Pola Stępniewicz. Ewa is the mother and a coach and development trainer at interpersonal communication, while Pola – the daughter is one of the youngest writers in Poland. At the age of 6 she wrote a book or rather … dictated it to her mum.

The activities conducted every Saturday at the Children and Youth Academy guarantee all the participants a great atmosphere, learning through play, creative workshops, preparation for the baccalaureate examination and during vacation – time actively spent at the children and youth camp.

The purpose of the project is to satisfy the cognitive curiosity, scientific interests and to develop the passions and talents of children and youth and encouraging them to explore the world and learn various fields of science. The activities are held at Prof. Zbigniew Religa Faculty of Medical Sciences and are conducted by didactic teachers, experts and specialists in various fields. Children and youth participate in the activities conducted in lecture theaters, workshop rooms and laboratories so that they can feel as if they were students.

The Children and Youth Academy began its activity in September, 2022 as a project performed by the City of Zabrze and the Academy of Silesia (former Silesian School of Technology in Katowice). The project is co-funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the participation in all the activities is free of charge.

– An important aspect we put a great stress on within the Norwegian funding is to encourage the young people to learn and explore the local potential – thanks to the Academy we want to show that Zabrze is a place to be seriously taken into the consideration while choosing the way of life and professional career – comments the President of Zabrze, Ms. Małgorzata Mańka-Szulik.

Last Saturday the first workshops for youth started within the Children and Youth Academy. The humanities group had the first conversations in English in a small circle, while the group of “scientific minds” in the biological lab observed the microorganisms hidden from human eye.
