The Conference on accessibility. Focus – the needs of people with disabilities
„The accessibility of public institutions and sports facilities to people with disabilities” – this is the title of the conference that began at 9.00 today in Arena, Zabrze, No. 81, Roosevelt Street. During the debates the participants could listen to experts who shared their knowledge on accessibility both in public and private life.
The conference was conducted by Krzysztof Kiepura. The introductory panel entitled „The accessibility of public institutions to people with disabilities” was opened Prof. of Silesian University of Technology Aleksandra Kuzior, Ph.D.Hab. with presentation entitled „The inclusive model of sustainable social development based on the Project “City as space for development”. Next, Prof. of Silesian University of Technology Beata Kucharczyk-Brus, Ph.D. Hab. Eng. Architect presented lecture entitled: „The Architectural Accessibility in the Project “City as Space for Development.””
Rafał Kwapuliński – specialist for people with disabilities from the Active Rehabilitation Fund FAR told about „The Accessibility of Public Instituions” – Active Rehabilitation Fund, while Krzysztof Wostal and Agnieszka Majnusz presented „The effective communication of people with disabilities”.
In the second part of today’s conference the lecturers focused on discussing the issues related to accessibility of sports facilities to people with disabilities.
Dr. Jakub Hawranek, Specialist in Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Motor Organ from the City Hospital in Zabrze, in his presentation outlined the topic of “Motor disability in medical aspect”. Piotr Szymala, the President of the Provincial Association of Sport and Rehabilitation of the Disabled talked about “The Accessibility of Sports Facilities and Sports Disciplines”. Michał Wilk – physical education teacher at Primary School 40 in Zabrze – informed the conference participants the topic „Accessibility of sports disciplines in Zabrze”. Angelika Chrapkiewicz-Gądek – motivation speaker, traveller and diver and Marcin Oleksy – special guest of the conference – Polish AMP football player, winner of the Goal of the Year 2022 in the FIFA ranking, also participated in the discussion.
The conference on the accessibility of public institutions and sports facilities to people with disabilities was organized thanks to the funds obtained by Zabrze from Norwegian Financial Mechanism.
The finale of the conference on accessibility will be a sports event on Arena Zabrze stadium ground, where in the spirit of fair play sports rivalry children with disabilities from Silesian Special Schools will play.
The dual football tournament will take place on 24th May at 9.00. In addition to the football games, numerous attractions, contests and games with prizes, the children will be able to meet Marcin Oleksy – a Polish AMP football player and winner of the Goal of the Year Prize 2200 in memory of Ferenc Puskas in the prestigious FIFA ranking the Best 2022.
