The 12th International Tourist Fair in Zabrze is in progress!

The stands of exhibitors from Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Croatia and from our region and country, competitions with interesting prizes, performances, tasting events or “Pirate Game at the Fair” – form only part of the attractions to the visitors to „Pogoń” Sports Hall within the upcoming two days. This is the place where the twelfth edition of the International Tourist Fair has started today. Among the attractions of the grand opening of the Fair was the performance of the Brass Band of the Coal Mining Museum conducted by Henryk Mandrysz. The Cheerleaders Energy girls also prepared their performance.

Croatia is the Fair partner this year and it will present its tourist and cultural offer on the two days of the Fair. The visitors will be able to taste some Croatian specialties, watch artistic performances showing the Croatian culture. Todat the visitors could see the shor of Miss Elis Lovrić and a duo of musicians from Croatia.

The students of W. Pilecki Memorial School Complex No. 3 prepared a fashion show and the teachers of Majowa Szkoła Tańca [May Dance School] presented the Argentinian Tango.

Among the exhibitors of the Fair we will find representatives of the institutions and objects of industrial heritage, museums as well as citied and regions, including without limitation, from Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Croatia and Slovakia. Like every year, the visitors will find a lot of attractions, workshops, shows and tasting events.

We can visit, among others, the stands of: Orava Castle, Orava Forest Railway, Nový Jičín, The Live Obwarzanek Museum from Cracow, The Zinc Smelting Museum – The Rolling Mill in Katowice, The Gas Industry Museum in Paczków, The Military Technology Park in Zabrze, the vintage bicycles – Zabrze, the Maciej Shaft, The Silesian Uprisings Museum or Ignacy Łukasiewicz Memorial Museum of Petroleum and Gas Industry in Bóbrka.

During the Fair the Zabrze Division of Polish Red Cross carried out a fundraiser for Ukraine. Every visitor to „Pogoń” Hall may also express their solidarity with the Ukrainian nation writing words of support on the special board set there for this purpose.

The 12th International Tourist Fair in Zabrze is accompanied by the 17th International Conference of Industrial Heritage Tourism (7th -8th April) organized by the City of Zabrze since 2004.

This year the Conference focused on the mission statement of the project performed as part of the Norwegian funds: “Zabrze – The City as Space for Development”. The conference includes the analysis of the urban space with industrial structures, most of all the historical ones revitalized and adapted for public, commercial, cultural use (such as art galleries, concert halls, theatres) and tourist attractions as they are, adapted for sight-seeing because of their historical, social and cultural values.

 

The conference is organised as part of Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and is part of the project “City as Space for Development”. The project worth
EUR 3 521 346,00 (85 per cent out of the Norwegian grants, 15 per cent from the State budget), has been performed since the 1st January, 2022 and will last until the 30th April, 2024.
