The project entitled „The City as Space for Development” funded from the “Local Development” program, co-funded from the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 included regular works and consultations. The Coordinating Team of „The City as Space for Development” co-funded from Norwegian Financial Mechanism held their meeting in Zabrze City Hall today.

The progress of works on the performance of specific tasks included in the project was discussed. One of them is the Children and Youth Academy – i.e. a series of workshops at which the children will have an opportunity to feel as if they were real university students. Earlier, on the 18th July, the educational-professional day camp for children from Zabrze will start as part of the project “The City as Space for Development”, coordinated by the Family Development Centre. The first term will last until the 29th July and the second will be from the 1st until the 12th August. The children will visit the attractions of Zabrze and spend their time in the interesting places of our city, they will also become familiar with professions on site and will learn the entrepreneurship.

It is worth mentioning that thanks to the project „Zabrze – the city as space for development Park Hutniczy [The Metallurgical Park] will be renewed. It will be refreshed and enriched with street furniture. This will be the location of a water playground and a skatepark. Thanks to the investment project the Metallurgical Park will be an excellent place to spend time off by whole families. The project will include the construction of brine graduation towers in Kończyce and Maciejów. The Registry Office will also benefit from being adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. The architectural barriers of the building will be removed.

The non-investment, so-called „soft” tasks include, without limitation, the active attitude activities – a block for children, youth and families and the “Vitality Academy” as well as the project “Stay with us at the weekend” that will serve the local community integration.

Some generally available educational activities will also be conducted in the city, such as openair activities or ecological events which will contribute to the protection of the elements of environment necessary in our lives by disseminating knowledge among the inhabitants and promoting good practices.

The main targets of the project „Zabrze – the city as space for development” include, without limitation, the improvement of the life quality in the city through better economic and social potential of the city, the natural environment quality and the urban spaces standard, the improvement of cohesion of activities and growth of the inhabitants’ trust to the public institutions, creating standards of modern public service provision and improvement of the institutional capacities of the city administration.

In addition to the tangible effects of the project performance, the intangible ones will also be noticeable, including, without limitation: the intensification of the city development through the expansion of the city specialisations, consolidated integration of the population, extending their eco-awareness, making the urban space more attractive and at the same time the increased number of initiatives for active pastimes in the “new” urban space. The basic actions of the project in this scope are to initiate the process of economic-social-environmental actions in the city.

The project will be performed until the 30th April, 2024.

The maximum total qualifiable costs covered by the project amount to: PLN 15 328 498,86.

Co-funding: EUR  3 371 346,00.
